Quarry Hill Creates
Following the highly successful launch of Quarry Hill Creates in October 2010 and the inaugural Quarry Hill Festival this July, arts organisations based on Quarry Hill will come together this summer for a third collaborative project.
A three day workshop for 12 Yorkshire-based artists facilitated by renowned artist Wendy Houstoun will take place on Quarry Hill from Wednesday 31 August to Friday 2 September.
The twelve artists have been selected by members of Quarry Hill Creates and include dancers and choreographers, as well as musicians, actors, directors and visual artists.
Wieke Eringa, Artistic Director of Yorkshire Dance says, “One of our ambitions for Quarry Hill Creates was to encourage artists to see this area of Leeds as an area of creativity, where artists are welcomed and supported. This three day project offers artists a rare opportunity to be truly experimental. It will challenge artists to explore new territory, speak each other’s languages and find new approaches to creating music and movement with no pressure to produce an end product.
“All the Quarry Hill Creates partners are committed to supporting excellence and innovation in the development of art forms and do so by supporting the careers of artists living and working in Yorkshire. We hope that this intensive will lead to further collaborative work between those involved and the partnership organisations.”
The launch of Quarry Hill Creates took place on Thursday 7 October 2010. Representatives and artists from each organisation met with partners and city leaders to showcase their work and share their plans for the future.
