Alison Grace is a dancer, performer and choreographer based in Leeds. She trained in contemporary dance at Northern School of Contemporary Dance (2006) and completed her training in choreography at Dartington College of Arts in June 2009.
She has trained and performed with Butoh choreographers and solo performers Marie-Gabrielle Rotie, Sayoko Onishi, Atsushi Takenushi, and Yuko Kaseki. She has collaborated as a choreographer and performer with curator/theatre director/choreographer Yair Vardi (Berlin-Tel Aviv), choreographer Anushiye Yarnell (Cardiff) and contemporary dancer Sabrina Ribes Bonet (Leeds).
Her collaboration with choreographer Louise Ahl (Berlin), “The Smyths Project” (2011) was funded by Arts Council England and supported by Yorkshire Dance. From 2000 to 2005, and prior to her activities as a dancer and choreographer in the UK, she trained at Masters level and worked in adult clinical psychology in Belgium.
Alongside her work as a choreographer, she leads high support disability movement group for Pyramid of Arts (Leeds) and facilitates dance and mental health group for Hoot Music (Huddersfield). She now writes for positive action alternative magazine Eye-Ball (London). She also collaborates with music producer Boy-with-Wings on music projects and composer Luke Wilson on music for dance performance. She currently teaches Butoh at Yorkshire Dance.
