Anushiye Yarnell
Movement and Dance Artist
Performer, Maker & Choreographer
My works evolve as I unravel questions, and curiosities about life through the body. These take form as personal and performative dance rituals. I am interested in finding an alternate territory for the audience and performer to co-inhabit – a realm between fantasy and reality. Through the body I reconstruct fragments of everyday life into existential, functional daydreaming. For me, a frictional romance exists between choreographed and improvised movement and I seek to make discoveries in the spectrum between them. I work with material in transformation drawing upon personal experience, past and future mythologies, notions of paradise and civilisation, dreams and the interweaving of cultural perspectives.
To date I have curated and performed in 3 international projects – Animal Love, Heavenly Love and Future of Love, which have brought together solo artists from different and diverse performance disciplines working on their individual interpretations of love in different realms of experience and imagination.
I studied Fine Art is Belfast before continuing with postgraduate studies in Dance and Performance Writing at Dartington College of Arts. I recently completed an MA Choreography at NSCD.
My works have been performed at different venues and festivals in, Japan, Europe and South America.
