Carol Marie Webster works internationally as a professional dance artist, cultural performance theorist/activist and cultural industries advocate. She is currently a PhD student at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Gender Studies in the School of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Leeds in the UK. Her research initiatives focus on the body in performance: performances of belonging, gender, religion, race, class, caste and (dis)ability in twenty-first century African Diaspora (the Black Atlantic) and in the wider category of western and westernizing societies.
In addition to being a performer and choreographer, she teaches Horton-based Modern dance and Hieflux Dance Mechanic (her own developed fusion of Caribbean, modern dance, martial and meditative arts) movement system, facilitates community critical engagement encounters and designs community arts initiatives.
