Bold Moves (for ages 50+)Tue, 1.30pm – 3.00pm A programme of dance for adults who want to explore, innovate, create, have fun and make ‘dance’. This term try African Dance, Contemporary, Latin Moves and DTURF, a rhythmic dance using props. ContemporaryTue, 6.30pm – 8.00pm (Level D) Level D: a challenging class encouraging dancers to work against common learned dance movement patterns. The class reflects the training background and the personal movement style of the artist, placing an emphasis on co-ordination, risk-taking, and non-linear movement. Level B/C: the class reflects the training background and the personal movement style of the artist, placing an emphasis on co-ordination, risk-taking, and non-linear movement. It is taught on two levels to enable complete beginners to get acquainted with basic principles of contemporary dance, at the same time as allowing people with some experience to develop further. Arabic (Belly Dance) COURSETue, 5.30pm – 7.00pm (Level B/C, Course) If you are completely new to my classes and are not sure if it’s something you would like, you have the option of paying for one week, at £7.00. If you come back the following week, just pay the difference of the full cost of the block. Numbers limited to 14 in a class so please book early. If you miss a class there will be no refund. In each block of classes you will learn 1. simple dance choreography Throughout this coure I will e-mail links that complement what I have talked about in class, and update choreography most weeks by e-mail. Near to the end of the course I will e-mail film recording of group choreography. Sometimes I will give a little homework which is not compulsory. We have ‘Woody the Tabla Player’ providing live music in most of these sessions. You will all get a chance to perform what you have learned in a showcase – again, not compulsory. BalletMon, 6.00pm – 7.00pm (Level A/B) Tue, 6.30pm – 8.00pm (Level B) £110 (£99 concession) for 12-week term for both the Monday and a Tuesday class This classical form of dance is ideal for developing posture, breathing, fitness and grace. The Monday Beginners class is suitable for absolute beginners and those wishing to improve their basic ballet technique. This class focuses on understanding the fundamental elements of classical ballet technique, improving the elements and learning basic classical ballet steps. The friendly Beginner class is suitable for those with little or no experience, and starts with a series of exercises at the barre, progressing to travelling movements. Turns and balances improve co-ordination, and jumps help build stamina and fitness. The Continuation class begins with structured exercises to strengthen muscles and increase flexibility, working to perfect the fundamental elements of classical ballet technique. Ballroom / LatinTue, 5.30pm – 6.30pm (Level B/C) If you love the grace and glitz of Strictly’s Waltz, Quickstep, Cha Cha, Jive and Samba, this is the place to experience them for yourself. With sessions for every level of ability, this is a fun, sociable way to develop and practise your skills. Shoes: Ballroom & Latin shoes are best; other options would be leather- or smooth-soled shoes for gentlemen, small heels or smooth-soled shoes for ladies. BokwaWed, 6.30pm – 7.30pm Bokwa is the brilliant new Dance and Fitness programme that is sweeping the country! If you’ve tried Zumba and loved it, then Bokwa is definitely for you. It’s a fantastic and intense cardiovascular workout for all abilities that is dance based and still great fun and easy to learn. Bokwa has been developed from South African war dance, Capoeira, Kickboxing and Steps fused with the pulsating rhythmic beats of African, Latin, Popular dance and House music. BollywoodThu, 6.30pm – 8.00pm (Level B, Course) This class is designed for everybody and will certainly spice up the aura by adding some Indian glitz to a workout whilst aiding optimum health & fitness through dance. The class comprises various elements of Indian dance from hand mudras to travelling sequences merged with contemporary & mesmerising Bollywood moves. This multicultural & fun class/workshop will enhance people’s individuality with auras, quality and style. BreakdanceWed, 8.00pm – 9.00pm (Level B/C) UDC break dance classes teach you the foundations of Bboying from industry professionals. The class begins with a warm-up, stretching and strengthening exercises to prepare you for learning the foundations of B-boyin; this will include top rock, foot work, freezes, throw downs, belly windmill, six step and floor work. You will in time progress onto the more challenging B-boyin moves and will be encouraged to work on your own more mixing up and linking different B-boyin moves. The class sometimes will end – for those that are brave enough – in a freestyle battle. This will help to build on your own style, strengths, creativity and confidence. Butoh DanceThu, 8.30pm – 9.30pm (Level A) The class will be composed of a warm-up to develop greater connection with our body, mind, space and others. These exercises are based on the techniques of Noguchi and Hijikata. We will then explore movement through solo and group work using imagery drawn from text, photography, film and dreams. Each session will be dedicated to a different theme. Butoh dance is open to people of all ages and no previous dance experience is needed to join in. It is a good dance practice to develop body awareness and deep performance presence. It is a source of inspiration for actors, visual artists and dancers. Shoes: bare feet Tutor: Alison Grace |

FlamencoWed, 6.30pm – 8.00pm (Level B, Course) Driving flamenco rhythms and thrilling movements are open to all in this class. Women, men, young and old, large or small can learn basic techniques and choreographies in the passionate art of Spanish Flamenco dance. You will learn footwork, braceo (arm movements), wrist curls and haunting flamenco rhythms. This sensual dance improves posture, strength and co-ordination skills. Beginners (Level B) learn a range of dance forms, including flamenco tangos, buleria and sevillanas. No previous experience necessary. Improvers (Level C) dancers will learn a number of dance forms, including buleria, solea por buleria and alegrías. Trained in Andalucia, Patricia brings an inclusive, friendly and fun approach to learning flamenco dance. Jazz FusionMon, 7.00pm – 8.00pm (Level B/C) UDC jazz fusion class encompass a variety of styles of dance including: jazz, theatre dance, lyrical jazz, contemporary and commercial street dance.. The class starts with a warm-up, stretching to encourage flexibility, exercises to increase core strength, and some basic technique , over time you will learn a variety of dance numbers combining street jazz, lyrical jazz, theatre dance and contemporary. Lishi Chinese Wushu DanceWed, 5.00pm – 6.30pm (ages 14-19) In Lishi (‘Lee Sher’) Chinese Wushu Dance you respond to a partner’s movements by yielding, evading and giving back. Choreographed dance sequences enable you to move fluidly on your own and with a partner even whilst using implements including sticks, swords and long silks (picture Jaden Smith in The Karate Kid). Lyrical DanceMon, 8.00pm – 9.00pm (Level B/C) UDC Lyrical dance classes combines ballet, jazz and contemporary dance styles. movements are flowing, expressive, emotive, subtle and dynamic. You will learn some basic ballet and jazz techniques, . leaps, kicks, jumps and pirouettes are some of the more challenging movements a choreographer might use in a routine – these movements will be broken down and taught at the level suitable to the students who are attending. Pilates with Miranda WellsMon, 6.00pm – 7.00pm (Level A) For ages 16+ A Pilates course running over 6 weeks, and then a separate 7-week course, developing the participants’ knowledge of what it is to have correct postural alignment. The sessions aim to develop a more supple well balanced body, and correct the problems of back pain, bad posture and injury. The benefits of Pilates are increased muscle tone, strength, and flexibility, better posture and more energy through a series of gentle mat-based exercises. Skinner Releasing TechniqueMon, 7.00pm – 9.00pm (Level A) Skinner Releasing Technique (SRT) is a pioneering approach to dancing. As with other techniques it develops increased strength, flexibility and freedom of movement. SRT also cultivates body awareness, economy in movement, creative play and personal expression. It is based on the simple principle that when we are letting go of habitual holding patterns we can move more freely, articulately and powerfully.
