Workshop at Independent Dance
Saturday 8 October
11.00am – 5.00pm

This workshop is about dance improvisation as a collective act; the creation of physical narratives that derive from sensing contexts. Uniting movement study and personal creativity, the practice enhances one’s performance presence.
The workshop focuses on real time composition by engaging action through listening, tracking, reading and moulding the improvisation as it proceeds. The study uses imagination, both personal and collective, to play with the vitality of compositional choices in the precariousness of the present moment.

For professional dance artists.

Studies For Maynard at Independent Dance

With Simon Whitehead
Saturday 19 November

Workshop (including performance installation) 2.30 – 5.30pm

Furniture is a workshop that emerges from the ideas informing Studies for Maynard. It explores the relationships between body and object through movement and asks if there can be an ecological practice embedded in existing together and with the objects and life forms around us.

Bring a domestic object or piece of furniture to work with – found, or lived with…

Performance Installation | 11am – 1pm

Studies for Maynard is a meditation on dislocation; the always unfinished practices of making home and sheltering; referencing the biography of an embryo; the Apollo 9 mission; the territorial behaviour of ravens; the writings and walks of Rajah Shehadah and Starman by David Bowie. Home here is more than a place; it is a network of resonances, as fragile and changeable as weather.

Standard price £8 (£6 conc) Free to workshop participants
