Current Projects

CanDoCo

Over the next three years (2008-2011) Candoco Dance Company and Yorkshire Dance, in partnership with Danceworks UK, will be delivering Moving-Bodies, a new development programme in Yorkshire. As part of this project, secondary schools, youth dance practitioners and emerging dance artists/dance students will have unique opportunities to work intensively with the company, building long term relationships with a professional contemporary dance company, their dancers and management team.

Protein

Protein’s new production Dear Body is performed and rehearsed with a community cast as well as a professional cast. Yorkshire Dance will play a key role in recruiting the community cast for the two performances in Yorkshire. Alongside this, Yorkshire Dance will also develop artist development opportunities and education work with Protein in spring 2009.

Little Movers

Little Movers is a programme of work specifically aimed at young children aged 0-4 and their parents in the Little London community. The project builds on Yorkshire Dance’s previous early years work and Opera North’s Little Voices project, which forms part of the company’s long term residency in Little London. Yorkshire Dance will work with Opera North to deliver weekly workshops with a group of families who will explore relationships, learning, communication and expression through dance and music.

The Dance

Thus is a creative dance class for adults over the age of 50. The class develops social, physical, and cognitive skills through dance, and involves working as a whole group, in smaller groups, pair and individual work with frequent chances to perform and/or share their work. The course encourages participants to follow dance in a creative format opening up processes into choreography, improvisation and performance.

Mind The Step – Creative

This dance course is a progression route for independent adults with a range of learning and physical disabilities who have significant experience in dance/drama. The hour long weekly class provides an opportunity to hone creative and performance skills in a clearly directed and supportive way and where ever possible will lead to a product. The class provides a differentiated and supportive environment allowing participants to be challenged and push their personal boundaries whilst being aware of individuals' needs.
