North Yorkshire & York platform, December 2013

North Yorkshire & York platform was held on Sunday 15 December 2013 at Easingwold Galtres Centre. Dancers aged 10 – 19 attended, and were drawn from across a wide area… from North Yorkshire & beyond.

Dancers came from Darlington, Skipton, Thirsk, Richmond, Reeth, Alborough St John, Pool in Wharfedale, Eldwick, Bedale and Wetherby.

A highlight was the guest boys dance group Xtreme Voltage, from Darlington. Their dance brought to life the songs of James Brown including I Feel Good and This is a Man’s World with choreography by Debbie Wasitell.

The county youth dance company, North Yorkshire Dance, performed Criss Cross by Donald Edwards and the dancers – an exuberant party-feel piece showcasing a blend of styles including Salsa, African and Club dance. Spectrum performed in a Commercial Jazz dance choreographed by Julius Ebreo and work in progress full of intricate patterns and unison sequences, with solos, duets and group work all performed at a fast pace. The evening also included a contemporary solo by an ex member of NYD, who is now dancing with the CAT (Centre for Advanced Training) at Northern School of Contemporary Dance.
