Time to Shine
Yorkshire Dance has been commissioned by Leeds Older People’s Forum as a delivery partner for Time To Shine, a 6-year programme funded through Big Lottery Ageing Better.
Time To Shine takes a city-wide approach to addressing the social isolation of older people, and Yorkshire Dance will be creating new social opportunities through a 2-year creative engagement project, Young at Arts, launching in September 2015.
As the lead partner of a consortium, we will be bringing together the creative energies of the Leeds Education Arts Forum (Leeds Grand Theatre & City Varieties, Northern Ballet, Opera North, Phoenix Dance Theatre, West Yorkshire Playhouse & Yorkshire Dance).
The Young at Arts project will be delivering programmes of creative engagement designed to meet the needs and interests of socially isolated older people, in partnership with community and neighbourhood networks and other service providers.
A team of volunteer ambassadors is going to be acting as the ‘social glue’ for the project to visit older people in their own homes, provide befriending and pastoral care and develop practical networks of help on transport and access.
As part of the ambassador group, you will receive training and guidance, experience a range of free arts activities, be invited to fortnightly drop-in sessions and become the public face of the Time to Shine – Young at Arts project across the city.
In return, we will ask you to help identify isolated older adults living in your community and work with us to signpost and support people into an exciting range of arts activities. Your voice will become instrumental in helping us design projects that meet the needs of older adults in Leeds. In addition, we are recruiting a steering group of older adults aged 55+ to help guide us through the design and delivery of our project.
If you are interested in becoming an ambassador or joining our steering group please don’t hesitate to give us a call, or complete the forms below.
We will be launching the project at Morley Town Hall on September 26 and taking it further afield in the autumn with a programme of arts carousels in Morley, Gipton and Rothwell. If you are interested in hearing more about the project please join us for ‘A Feast of Music and Dance by Older Performers‘ on Saturday 26 September from 11.30-1.30pm at Morley Town Hall
Tickets are free but must be booked by calling Yorkshire Dance on 0113 243 8765
or by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org
