Gwenny Rose Robson
Gwenny Rose grew up in Derbyshire and began dancing locally. Derby Dance Centre was an integral part of her early performing experiences, working with Fleur Darkin, Mavin Khoo, Claire Cunningham and Laila Diallo. She studied A Level dance and a BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts, Dance at Norton College, Sheffield, including Cecchetti Classical Ballet training.
Aged seventeen she was accepted at the London Contemporary Dance School. Her highlights include performing with LC3, the third year touring company and her graduation performances when chosen for Cult by Hofesh Shechter. In her final year she created a duet in collaboration with composer, Jane Heberd and musicians from The Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
More recently Gwenny completed a Postgraduate Diploma at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance. Following this she took an apprenticeship with Balbir Singh Dance Company appearing on Look North performing at Headingley Stadium and later at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.
Her work is wide and varied taking her to perform in spaces such as St Pancras International Station for a photography project and a flashmob at Tate Britain. Performance art is another area of interest, having worked at the Royal College of Art alongside award winning Leah Capaldi as well as with post punk band The Callas, performing in Yinka Shonibare’s exhibition space. She has produced her own work at Cloud Dance Festival and has had a review published in Pulse magazine.
Gwenny continues her interest and association with local companies including Ascendance, Slanjayvah Danza and RJC Dance. She currently works for The Cheerleading Company, coaching dance classes for Pineapple studios in Leeds and York.
At the moment Gwenny is working towards a solo to be performed as part of Fashion Bites Back, a fashion show held at the Northern Ballet Theatre for the Nothing But Nets campaign for Malaria.
