OYO Dance Troupe - Ombetha Yehinga Organisation - NamibiaCALL FOR PROPOSALS: Unusual Connections
Friday 4 July 2014, Yorkshire Dance

We invite proposals of work to be part of an evening dedicated to showcasing what happens when artists work with communities. The proposals can be for traditional performance pieces, films or installations.

The evening will be a chance to celebrate and reflect on some of the most magical personal journeys, embarked upon as a result of the impact of coming into contact with dance on your doorstep.

Closing deadline for applications is FRIDAY 16 MAY 2014.

Proposals should be for pieces between 5 and 15 minutes maximum, technically simple, adaptable to quick turnarounds and suitable for showing alongside other pieces.

  • 15 minutes max in duration
  • Technically simple and adaptable to quick turnarounds
  • Self-supporting in terms of props/set/equipment and technology beyond the provision of Yorkshire Dance

70% of box office will be split between all participating artists/companies.
Please note that Yorkshire Dance cannot offer any other fees; travel expenses may be possible however this will have to be discussed and agreed prior to the performance date.

If possible Yorkshire Dance would like to support the rehearsal of work in weeks leading up to this evening through its standby space if and when possible.

Please also note that, due to the nature of the event, warm-up space and dressing rooms might be limited.  We will do our best to meet your needs, but please consider this carefully before applying.

1. All applicants MUST complete and submit an expression of interest.
2. Inclusion of a video submission/internet link to a recording is essential.
(if a recording of the work is not available then please send us a link to your previous work or at the very least some images of your work).

All proposals will be considered by Yorkshire Dance. Short listing of work for inclusion will be on the basis of suitability to the artistic parameters of the event, technical and logistical feasibility. Due to heavy demand, the following selection criteria have been developed

1. Artistic merit of proposed ideas is paramount (choreographic content, ideas and performance execution)
2. Priority will be given to practising professional work from the Yorkshire region
3. We are interested in work that can demonstrate impact /connection to the communities they have worked with; “Unusual Connections”
4. Track record of artists will be taken into consideration
5. Final year degree and post-graduate work will be eligible
