Dance Artists wanted for Yorkshire Dance Youth Companies

Yorkshire Dance is looking for inspirational dance artists to join our existing team, working with young people aged 12-18 years on exploring issue-based dance as part of a three-year youth dance company project.

We are seeking dance artists who are passionate about working with young people and interested in creating dance and dance theatre that explores themes and issues which are topical and relevant to young people.

Selected dance artists will have opportunity to create work in Leeds with young people from the postcode areas of LS9, LS14 and LS15.

Dance Artists should be able to demonstrate and evidence extensive work with young people and a strong desire to create issue-based dance.

Yorkshire Dance will be holding an information and recruitment day on Friday 31 October. We will invite selected dance artists to join us to take part in a workshop, deliver a short session to a group of young people and have open discussions reflecting on their practice.

Yorkshire Dance will contribute £80.00 per person to support attendance on the day.

Essential criteria

• A recent DBS check (dated within 12 months)
• The legal right to work in the UK
• Public liability insurance
• Adherence to the Yorkshire Dance Equality and Safeguarding Policies
• Experience of working with young people in a creative context
• Strong choreographic skills

Desirable criteria

• Experience of working with hard-to-reach groups
• Experience of creating issue-based dance in communities
• A qualification in dance


Dance Artists should be able to commit to devising periods that suit the timetable of the group. Currently the group work on Wednesday evenings at Yorkshire Dance.  Additional devising time may be found within weekends and school holidays.

The project will commence in January 2015 and will run until 2017.

Fee negotiable depending on experience.
