Dance Visions Conference 2014

The team are still buzzing from our third and biggest regional youth dance conference: Dance Visions on 7th November in York. Dance Visions was really well attended with (over 130) delegates and speakers from across Yorkshire and beyond including those from a wide range of backgrounds, such as teachers, artists, funders, local authority arts officers, students, FE and HE lecturers and freelance practitioners.

“The conference was fantastic, one of the best I have been to as it was honest and open about the work we live in not pretentious.”

The conference opened with young dancers from Momentum Dance in Wakefield presenting their 12 Visions for Youth Dance – created in consultation with young people from across Yorkshire.

Dance Visions explored the two themes of quality and content within youth dance, using both the 12 Visions for Youth Dance and Arts Council’s Quality Principals to underpin the day.

Sessions were led by Lucy Bennett and David Toole from Stopgap Dance Company, Helen Linsell from Dance United Yorkshire, Linda Jasper from Youth Dance England, Vicky Igbokwe from Uchenna Dance, Zoie Golding from Zoie Logic Dance and Hannah Robertshaw from Yorkshire Dance. Sessions ranged from practical workshops on challenging street dance to discussion based sessions on challenging myths in inclusive dance.

I had a fantastic day at Yorkshire Dance’s Dance Visions. Feel all refreshed and inspired.”
