Older people in dance leadership

Older people in dance leadershipYorkshire Dance is working with partners from academia and health from across the city of Leeds to develop a leadership project putting older people firmly in the lead.

The central theme of the project is to invest in the development of leadership by older adults in dance and the aim is to research sustainable models of relevant dance provision in diverse communities in Leeds.

Yorkshire Dance have begun to develop and deliver a three year partnership project that explores how to recruit, support and nurture older adults taking a leadership role in dance; choreography and  facilitatory practice and tests out models of rooting this dance expertise in local communities. Some funding has been secured through Leeds University to allow us  to begin to challenge the model and recruitment of older people’s leaders through a series of focus group events with the public, health commissioners, research academics and potential partner organisations.
