Yorkshire Dance and Leeds Education Arts Forum (LEAF) are delivering an exciting two-year project that will improve the lives of older adults living in Leeds.The partnership brings together the creative energies of Yorkshire Dance, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds Grand Theatre and City Varieties, Northern Ballet, Phoenix Dance Theatre and Opera North.

We are looking for 40 older adults to join an ambassador group to help us reach socially isolated individuals, aged 55+, in Leeds by guiding them towards an exciting range of arts activities that will take place across the city.

As part of the ambassador group, you will receive training and guidance, experience a range of free arts activities, be invited to fortnightly drop-in sessions and become the public face of the Time to Shine – Social Opportunities (working title) project across the city.

In return, we will ask you to help identify isolated older adults living in your community and work with us to signpost and support people into an exciting range of arts activities. Your voice will become instrumental in helping us design projects that meet the needs of older adults in Leeds. In addition, we are recruiting a steering group of older adults aged 55+ to help guide us through the design and delivery of our project.

We will be launching the project at Morley Town Hall on September 26 and taking it further afield in the autumn with a programme of arts carousels in Morley, Gipton and Rothwell. If you are interested in hearing more about the project please join us for ‘A Feast of Music and Dance by Older Performers‘ on Saturday 26 September from 11.30-1.30pm at Morley Town Hall. A Feast of Music & Dance by Older Performers

A lunchtime feast of music and dance will launch an exciting new project making a difference to the quality of life of older adults in Leeds! This event will showcase live performance and film by older performers from Yorkshire Dance,  Academy of Northern Ballet Over 55’s class and West Yorkshire Playhouse ‘Heydays’ and will also feature a sharing from guest Australian performance group ‘The Golds’.

Come along to find out more about exciting arts activities for older people, becoming part of our steering group and volunteer team or simply if you would like to be entertained! This is an opportunity to meet and make new friends, share stories, see something new and find out about our exciting project.

About the GOLDS

The GOLD Company are a group of over 55′s who love to move, laugh, create and perform. Based in Canberra, Australia, they have been running for 5 years and have established an identity as a company synonymous with quality, enquiry and humour.  They have a proud relationship with some of Australia’s national institutions such as the National Gallery of Australia, National Library of Australia, National Portrait Gallery, CSIRO Discovery and National Museum of Australia. The GOLD tour to the UK is an example of their free, fun loving spirits – self funded with love and passion for the dance and communication.

Funding for the project comes from the Big Lottery Fund’s Ageing Better programme. The Time To Shine project, led by Leeds Older People’s Forum, aims to address social isolation in older adults through a range of exciting projects.
