We are currently working with Irwin Mitchell, a national law firm with a Leeds based office, to create a Christmas extravaganza to raise money for our Youth and Community work. ‘Let’s Face the Music…’ is a thirteen minute choreography created by Yorkshire Dance’s Youth and Community Director, Hannah Robertshaw, which will feature six senior law firm partners alongside six professional dancers, trained at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance.
Each professional dancer has just six hours to teach the lawyers the choreography which ranges from the twist to the jive and the waltz. The lawyers are receiving sponsorship from friends, family and colleagues to learn to dance and their efforts will be judged at a performance on 17 December.
The final event, held at Aspire in Leeds, will feature performances from Yorkshire Dance’s Youth Company (YDY) and our Saturday Street Crew. The lawyers will then take to the floor in front of an expert panel featuring professional dancer and choreography, Gary Clarke. Awards will be presented for the most improved dancer and the best overall performance.
The event will raise money to support the work of Yorkshire Dance’s Youth and Community department. We’re absolutely astounded by the commitment, energy and bravery of the senior partners at Irwin Mitchell who are learning to dance to raise money for the work of the department. It’s a pleasure to work in this way and reaffirms our belief in dance for everyone. Some of the partners are really out of their comfort zones but they are all embracing the challenge with humour and energy.
