Young At Arts

Engaging over 50 older adults in ten-week projects in the areas of Morley, Gipton and Rothwell, our fantastic Young at Arts project delivered three creative consultation projects which culminated in December.

Young at Arts, led by Yorkshire Dance on behalf of the LEAF consortium (Leeds Education Arts Forum) brings together the creative talents of Yorkshire Dance, Phoenix Dance Theatre, Northern Ballet, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds Grand, City Varieties and Opera North.

Each ten-week consultation project enabled older adults aged 55+ to explore a variety of arts activities with professional artists. In 2016, each area will be offered a bespoke project which responds directly to the activities that participants have enjoyed the most. A further set of consultation projects will take place from January 2016.

“I loved my first session. It was a small friendly group with an enthusiastic and charismatic dance tutor. I loved the range of movement and the dance routines.” Young at Arts Participant.

Young at Arts is funded through Big Lottery, Aging Better as part of Time to Shine led by Leeds Older People’s Forum. The project aims to reduce social isolation in older adults across Leeds.
