Young at Arts grows from strength to strength

Young at Arts led by Yorkshire Dance on behalf of the LEAF partnership (Leeds Education Arts Forum) is celebrating another successful Weekend Of Wonder event that brought together over 80 older adults in an afternoon of music and dancing at the Meanwood Community Centre.

The Young at Arts Steering Group, comprised of older adults from the local community, are honing their skills as curators, project managers and promoters by coordinating an exciting programme of events that take place at the weekends.

Events range from large social events to smaller participatory projects, all of which are designed to engage older people from across the city. The most recent event included live music from the Citizen’s Orchestra alongside dancing and socialising.

Feedback from the event has been extremely positive, “It was good to see so many golden age people enjoying themselves. It’s nice to know that they are not forgotten.”

Young at Arts is part of Time To Shine, funded by Big Lottery: Ageing Better. The project aims to tackle social isolation and loneliness in older adults aged 55+ across the city of Leeds.
