Youth Dance Hubs
Resulting from new investment from Youth Dance England, Yorkshire Dance is establishing 5 new sub-regional youth dance hubs to make it easier for young people to have access to high quality dance provision in their own localities.
The five hubs, and the areas they will cover, are:
West Yorkshire Hub
The unitary authorities of Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield.
North Yorkshire and York Hub
The North Yorkshire County Council area, including the shire districts of Craven, Richmondshire, Harrogate, Selby, Hambleton Ryedale and Scarborough. The unitary authority of York.
East Yorkshire Hub
The unitary authorities of East Riding of Yorkshire and Kingston upon Hull
The South Bank Hub
The unitary authorities of North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire
South Yorkshire Hub
The unitary authorities of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield
Each hub will consist of a sub regional cross-sector partnership made up from a representative from some or all of the following.
Local authority, sports sector, education sector: health sector and the dance/arts sector.
The hubs will have a wide ranging remit including developing their local infrastructure, ensuring delivery of Youth Dance England’s National Brief in their area and devising and delivering a local action plan focusing on the key national priorities of widening access, raising standards and improving progression routes.
Check back here for news on the hubs, including contact details, as they become active over the summer of 2009. For more information in the meantime, contact youth@yorkshiredance.com
U.Dance
U.Dance is Youth Dance England’s national dance performance framework which aims to ensure that every young person has an annual opportunity to participate in a dance performance.
It has four levels:
Level 1: School dance performances that involve local clusters and families of schools as well as School Sports Partnerships as a whole and small or informal out-of-school (youth) dance performances.
Level 2: County and sub-regional dance performances for all school aged young people. Young people do not need to have participated in a level1 event to take part at level 2.
Level 1 and 2 events (or school and county dance performances) will run independently so that there is maximum flexibility created in local delivery. Level 1 and 2 events will also encourage primary school aged pupils to participate.
Some of the benefits of registering your event with U.Dance
• You can take advantage of training and resources aimed at both teachers and out of school dance providers
• Your events will be advertised on the online U.Dance Calendar
• You will be able to engage with young people who do not normally participate in PE but may enjoy dance
• You can use the national profile of this project to help push for more high quality dance activity in your school, organisation or in your School Sports Partnership.
Register your level 1 or level 2 event on the U.Dance website now
Level 3: Regional dance performances for 11 to 19 year olds. At level 3, Yorkshire Dance will deliver an event that forms part of the selection process for the biennial National Dance Performance (Level 4 below). Young people do not need to have participated in a Level 1 or 2 event to take part at Level 3.
Yorkshire’s Level 3 Event will be called Fresh and will take place at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds on Tuesday 10 March 2010. For more information please email youth@yorkshiredance.com
Level 4: National Youth Dance Festival (now known as U.Dance England) for 11 to 19 year olds. Managed by Youth Dance England this biennial event will involve young people who have been selected at Level 3 events, from across the 9 regions of England.
U.Dance England 2010 will take place at the Birmingham Hippodrome on Sunday 4 July 2010 with a three day residency for groups beginning on 1 July. Application packs will be available on the U.Dance website from 1 September 2009.
Dancers or dance groups need to be aged between 11 and 19, with a minimum group size of 1 and maximum of 15. We welcome applications focusing on any dance style so put a reminder in your diary to go to the U.Dance website from 1st September to find out more and download an application pack.
U.Dance England is managed by Youth Dance England working in partnership with DanceXchange
