LIFT
Launched in October 2009 with funding of £35,000 from Arts Council England, LIFT is an 18 month artist development scheme enabling Yorkshire Dance to support two Associated Artists and to bring together a group of 14 dance practitioners – known as The Fourteen – in a career mentoring programme.
The two Associated Artists have taken up long-term creative residencies at Yorkshire Dance, to explore methods of practice by working with new collaborators and mentors, and to develop their ability to stage work professionally. The Fourteen are benefitting from an extensive series of seminars to equip them with skills including visioning, marketing, presentation skills and career planning.
Yorkshire Dance’s two Associated Artists are Gary Clarke and Douglas Thorpe. They have been selected on the basis of the originality of their ideas and a proven track record of choreographic ability, and because both are at potentially pivotal moments in their careers.

The Fourteen are all dance artists with an innovative and rigorous approach to their work, who have developed their practice in a wide range of professional and community environments.
They will benefit from an extensive series of seminars from CIDA (Creative Industries Development Agency), equipping them with professional skills alongside their artistic development.
The Fourteen are given priority of application for free short-term residencies in one of Yorkshire Dance’s studios to research, create and develop work.
The Fourteen are
