Roots of Rumba: Call out for Latin Dance Theatre shows

Groundbreaking festival of Contemporary-Latin, Afro-Latin and Latin Hip Hop dance theatre & culture, Roots of Rumba is back in 2017 at Richmix, London, on the 7th, 8th & 9th of April 2017, with the hope to also expand to the North. Produced & curated by Ella Mesma & Passion & Purpose, the sell out London event celebrates two nights of of Latin dance theatre performances from the very best of UK’s Latin choreographers and dancers who are pushing the scene forward with their innovative take on Tango, Salsa, Capoeira, Samba and Rumba.

Performers for the two days of shows will be selected by application. The shows must have a link to Latin Street Dance styles (eg Salsa, Rumba, Samba, Afro Brazilian, Kizomba, Tango music or dance). We are looking for shows that are highly technical, theatrical and can also communicate ideas and feelings.

Established in 2013, Roots of Rumba is the first Latin Dance Theatre Platform of its kind, and shines a spotlight on the wealth of activity, cultures and skills embedded within Latin culture. Roots of Rumba in London is comprised of two nights of shows, a full day of dance workshops and an after party with Internationally acclaimed DJ Lubi from Leeds. Last year included acts such as Luanda Pau (CUBA), Myriam Gadri (NYC) and Tierra Morena (SWEDEN).
