Improvisation Exchange

Yorkshire Dance is pleased to offer all you keen improvisers the opportunity to come along learn, explore, play and share. This time will help you fine tune your senses whilst waking up your ability to listen and respond to what is happening in the moment. Improvisation Exchange will happen on the third Sunday of the every month.

The Break Exchange

Yorkshire Dance is opening its doors to all breakers: b-boys and b-girls out there of any age and any ability.  Every first Sunday of the month we dedicate a studio to the hip hop community for practising, sharing skills and networking. The studio is a large safe space with excellent sound system and costs only £2 to attend.  There will be breakdancers with different levels of experience present and a great opportunity to develop new skills together.

Progress 2008

Yorkshire Dance replaces one its existing Choreographic Platform with a brand new focus. Progress 2008 is an opportunity for regional artists to share their work whilst it is in its initial stages of development. The aim of this platform is to support and develop the making of dance in the region in a safe environment. Progress 2008 will be an open application process and is appropriate for anyone who simply has an idea you want to put to the floor for feedback, sections of movement that you hope to develop, or the beginning of a piece. Whatever style of dance you work within you are welcome to apply. More information will follow via the website and our weekly e-bulletin. Keep your eyes open!

Hip Hop Dance with Hype Dance Company

An exciting workshop led by Anna Olejnicki Artistic Director of Hype Dance Company. Anna is one of the few emerging female choreographers bringing Hip Hop Dance Theatre to the stage. This accessible morning workshop will take you through the basics of Hip Hop dance to learn new skills and give you new ideas. This workshop is designed for those with little experience of Hip Hop dance styles. Please wear trainers.

Hip Hop Dance Choreography with Hype Dance Company

This workshop is an exceptional opportunity to develop your Hip Hop Dance skills and explore the creation of abstract Hip Hop Dance choreography. This afternoon is open for people with some dance & choreography experience (not necessarily in Hip Hop styles) who are ready to try out new ideas. This session is aimed at dance artists, dance teachers, dance practitioners and out of school activity providers. Please wear trainers.

technical warm-up and generative choreographic tasks led by Wayne

who has at least three years of dance training and wants to further their
development. This workshop is in association with Lawrence Batley Theatre and includes a free ticket to see the company
perform at Lawrence Batley Theatre on 11 December 2008.

Wayne McGregor | Random Dance: Community Master Class

This workshop explores the creative potential of choreographic tasks that reflect and expose the processes of Artistic Director, Wayne McGregor and his dancers during the creation of the company’s full length touring works. Tasks may include spatial and numeric concepts or themes as starting points to generate movement language. This workshop is designed for those with little experience in any kind of dance.
